A benefit of employment at Young’s is a scholarship of $250 a year, for up to four years. Each of our Staff of whatever age can take advantage of this. The are some requirements: complete one year of employment at Young’s, are going to an accredited school and have a GPA equivalent of 2.0 or better. We also require a one-page essay of how their job at Young’s helps prepare them for their higher education. We don’t grade the essay(!) but we like to encourage thinking and writing skills and are always interested in what our Staff goals are for their future.

…I have been working at Young’s for five years, and it has already helped me tremendously. I decided last year to be a Resident Assistant to help out financially and improve my resume. Everyone throughout the interview process and my first semester as RA has been very impressed with my people skills and ability to communicate efficiently. These skills have been developing since my freshman year in high school at Young’s and working around people of all types and interacting with customers with multiple backgrounds.
…another thing has done is given me several qualities and skills such as becoming more outgoing, hardworking and gaining more leadership qualities.
…working at Young’s the past almost five years has been a great experience for me. This was my first job and I couldn’t have asked for a better job to help me succeed in college. Young’s has taught me responsibility. I love my job and take it seriously; therefore, I am very responsible when it comes to doing my best at work, as well as in school. Training new employees, and recently becoming a leader, has put a lot of responsibility on my plate, yet I enjoy it and it has helped me grow as a person.
…I have also learned that being responsible and working hard will carry me further. I have been able to keep up with schoolwork and obtain satisfying grades. It not only takes responsibility to achieve desired grades, but it takes responsibility to come to class and turn in homework on time. Showing up late to work is unacceptable. I know my boss and professors expect the best from me, and my intentions are to always give them my best.
We started the Young’s Scholarship in 1999 as a way to reward our great Staff and (of course) to encourage them to return to Young’s each summer to help us during our busy season! It’s great for Young’s to have a motivated and trained workforce ready to go right as the summer gets underway.
Our Staff has earned $64,000 in Young’s Scholarships since we started this program! We are happy to help our wonderful Staff in their further education.
