Every spring, we get busy landscaping the grounds of our farm. Our goal is to enhance our Guest’s visit to Young’s with interesting plants, flowers, bushes, trees and features. Each year we add a new feature or two to enjoy as you wander around Young’s.
Our Director of Outside First Impressions is Lee Whittaker. He and his assistant, Gary Boggs, spend a lot of time and effort creating and then maintaining our grounds. Lee and Gary are helped during parts of the year by many other Staff at Young’s to help keep things looking great. There is the weekly mowing, watering and fertilizing of plants and a bunch of other details to tend to constantly.
Landscaping is intense around the two miniature golf courses. Both courses get a lot of use and having nice flowers and other plants around while playing a round or two just makes it more fun! The first course was opened in 1992 – and by working hard, it looks great! The driving range also takes a lot of time – mowing the main part of the range weekly, and the grass tee area a couple times a week.
When walking around the farm, you may also notice several features – hanging plants on the porches of both restaurants, large pots with various plants in them, more hanging plants between the Barn and the Dairy Store, rock outlined gardens, hanging plants on our picnic shelters, a few painted fiberglass cows (by Bill Whittaker), a repurposed antique manure spreader with potted plants and more. It’s a big job to keep up.
Of course, landscaping also includes picnic tables, benches to sit and rest for a bit, our bench wagon with the multi-paint color 10-gallon milk cans and more.
