One of the things we have learned to do over the decades at Young’s is to host large events on our farm. We are blessed with a lot of space and a great workforce of more than 320 people to make things happen. Part of our culture is also working with the community. Many years ago a group of local farmers approached us to see if we would provide space and help on promotion, support and logistics for a natural fiber show they had created- we of course said yes.
In the spring of 1994, several individuals who had fiber animals or who loved to make things from wool met to discuss the possibility of having a Fiber Show. The first one was held at the Clark County Fairgrounds in June, 1995. After three years at the Fairgrounds, it was moved to Young’s Jersey Dairy. The first show at Young’s was held in the small picnic pavilions near Udders & Putters in September, 1999. The show grew rapidly and was moved to the present location in ever larger tents to house vendors, demonstrations and animals.
The 21st Wool Gathering – A Festival of Fibers – is scheduled for Sep 17 & 18, 2016. 100+ vendors from several states display and sell their fiber related merchandise and fiber art. Several demonstrations on all things natural fiber, sheep shearing, sheep herding dogs, many natural fiber animals (sheep, alpacas, llamas and rabbits) are all part of the show. The hours are 10am to 7pm Saturday Sep 17 and 10am to 5pm Sunday Sep 18. The show is located in the large tents east of (behind) the Dairy Store. Free admission!
