Young’s Jersey Dairy recently launched “A Sundae Chat With the Young’s.” This monthly podcast is dedicated to stories about Young’s Jersey Dairy, family business ownership, tales of running a restaurant, and of course, ice cream!
The podcast is hosted by Dan Young, chief ice cream dipper/CEO at Young’s Jersey Dairy; his son, John Young, C-I-E-I-O in charge of marketing; and Kelly Young, a veteran Young’s Dairy employee and wife of John!
In this first podcast episode, the Sundae Chat team sits down with Bill Young, a second generation Young family member. Bill shares his stories of growing up on a working farm and how the business transitioned over the years.
Here are some highlights that Bill shares in the episode!
- Bill estimates he’s milked cows more than a million times over the years! He milked between 50-100 cows a day, 360 days a year for 47 years. That’s a lot of milk.
- When asked why he thinks Young’s has stayed in business so long, Bill credits honest, hard-working staff and the support of the community.
- Bill’s earliest memory on the Young’s farm was raking hay at the age of 9!
- Bill’s favorite Young’s Ice Cream flavor: Butter Pecan.
- Bill’s go-to sundae: The classic combo of Vanilla Ice Cream and chocolate sauce.
Sit back and listen to Bill recount the history of Young’s in the full episode of A Sundae Chat, and check out other episodes here.
