Episode 3 of “A Sundae Chat with the Young’s” features three members of the family’s fourth generation in the business. Cousins Ashtyn (Young) White, Jesse Young and Maleigha share their experiences working on the dairy farm, and what lessons they took with them into their careers.

Young’s Jersey Dairy recently launched “A Sundae Chat With the Young’s.”  This monthly podcast is dedicated to stories about Young’s Jersey Dairy, family business ownership, tales of running a restaurant, and of course, ice cream!

Episode 3 Preview: Fourth Generation Cousins

Episode 3 of “A Sundae Chat with the Young’s” features three members of the family’s fourth generation in the business. Cousins Ashtyn (Young) White, Jesse Young and Maleigha share their experiences working on the dairy farm, and what lessons they took with them into their careers.

Preview some of the fun facts shared in the episode:

  • Working on the Farm:
    • Maleigha primarily worked outdoors on the farm, in the Pumpkin Patch, at Udders & Putters and driving tractors!
    • Jesse was given odd jobs to start, ranging from slicing bread to picking pumpkins before he began scooping ice cream in the Dairy Store.
    • Ashtyn helped in the barn as needed and then worked in the Dairy Store during college scooping ice cream, cooking and bussing tables.
  • On the Longevity of the Family Business:
    • Jesse: “The good news is, there’s no real history of a Young ever retiring!”
    • Maleigha added that the involvement of all family members helps to strengthen the business.  Whether working at the farm or participating in events and showing up a the farm to say hello.
  • Lifelong Lessons Learned at Young’s (BONUS content shared when microphones were off):
    • Jesse: “The thing I learned from working on the farm is to have a strong work ethic and a love for what you do. Success and hard work are directly correlated.”
    • Ashtyn: “No job is too small or too big. If something needed done for an event, large party or someone called off you were expected to fill in the gap. It’s important to still have that same mentality today in order to accomplish your goals or objectives.”
    • Maleigha: “The skills and lessons that I took from the farm was great people skills and how to be a hard worker. Working hard for your employers and great customer service is so important and will definitely come with me throughout my future career.”

    • Maleigha: Cotton Candy as a kid, French Vanilla now
