Young’s Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour – our 14th Year in 2016 – the $1,000,000 Ride!

bike tour

The premier charity event Young’s is part of is the Young’s Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour.  Young’s got involved in a charity bike ride 18 years ago – when Holly, who was in charge of the Dayton chapter of Multiple Sclerosis stopped by and asked if we’d like to be the starting and ending point of a MS150 ride.  We said, “Sure, why not?”  Not really knowing what we agreed to do!

For four years, we were a part of that ride and quickly became more involved.  We became a member of the volunteer committee that was in charge of the ride saw how well Young’s homemade ice cream and bike riding went together!

When the MS150 ride in Dayton consolidated with the Cincinnati ride, it didn’t make sense for Young’s to support a charity event that far away (even though we do have quite a few Guests from the Cincinnati area).  So, the local volunteer committee that had been running the ride for a number of years, even before Young’s involvement, decided that we would create our own ride – and call it the Young’s Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour.

The first year we did just a one-day ride with different mile options.  We then expanded to more options – a two-day ride and a one-day ride, both with mileage options to fit each rider’s abilities and desire!

The volunteer committee chooses the charities we work with and who benefit from donations.  Typically, we keep the same charities each year.  For the past several years, we have worked with United Rehabilitation Services, South Community, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and The Alzheimer’s Association.  Each charity does a lot of work supporting our ride and help us in many ways.

Since we started Young’s Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour, we have donated $955,000 to the charities.  We are looking forward to making this 14th ride on July 16 & 17, 2016 the one we exceed $1,000,000 – our goal this year is to give $130,000!  We thank our committee members, the sponsors of the ride, the charities and all the riders for making this ride one of the best in the state of Ohio!

If you’d like to register to ride, donate to the ride and help up exceed one million dollars this year – or donate to a rider account as they each reach their fundraising goals – go to and click Donate or Join.  Thanks for helping us in our mission to help make the lives of people living in the Miami Valley better.
